Lviv Town Hall (Ratusha)

Throughout the course of its history, Lviv Town Hall was a place of meeting of local deputies. It’s a place where the city’s fate is decided; however, tourists are more attracted by the roof of the Town Hall’s tower. From up here, you can admire the panoramic view of the historic city. You will get a better view of roofs, compare the streets and assess architectural elements. Besides that, there is an old clock with a unique mechanism on the Ratusha’s tower. Perhaps, you will ask: What’s so special about it? Let’s keep the intrigue until the tour.

Fountains

In 1793, four fountains were constructed at Rynok Square — one on every corner of the square. Each fountain has an octagonal bowl; in the center of the bowl, there is an ancient mythology statue such as the God of the sea Neptune and his wife Amphitrita, the Goddess of the hunt Diana and the hero Adonis.

Black Stone House

A historic black building with many architectural elements. Why the building became black? Maybe you have your idea? Scientists shared so many versions that they cannot choose one single common version. The house was built in 1577. Its architecture is referred to as ‘Renaissance’ architecture. The building was attributed to Petro Krasovsky. Today, there is the Lviv Historical Museum inside the mysterious Black Stone House.

Latin Cathedral

The Latin Cathedral is another mystery. It is a shrine whose architecture could be used as a study guide for both students and scientists. It was built in the Gothic style. For several years, the building had been reconstructed, restored and decorated with new stylistic elements. It combines the features of the Baroque, the Renaissance, and the Secession style. And what about you? What can you see here?

Armenian Cathedral

Look at the ground. These slabs are Armenians’ burial places. People say that the human soul leaves the earth only after its name disappears from a headstone. Anyone who walks over these gravestones at the entrance to the Armenian Cathedral brings dozens of Armenians closer to heaven. It is a unique piece of architectural of the XIV-XV centuries. It’s a small piece of the East in the middle of Europe. One of the most exciting peculiarities of the Cathedral is the wooden chapel referred to as Golgotha (don’t worry, our guide will tell you about it).

Dominican Cathedral

This Cathedral is a UNESCO World Heritage Site because it’s a unique piece of architecture in the very heart of Lviv’s historic ensemble. The Dominican Cathedral, the Church of the Holy Eucharist, the Church of the Body of Christ, and the Dominican Monastery are included in one glorious building. Moreover, the Dominican Cathedral is a piece of architecture of national importance.

Royal Arsenal

This fortification was built at the expense of King Wladyslaw IV Vasa. Long ago, there was a weapons storehouse there. The Royal Arsenal was a place of casting bells and weapons. Today, the State Archive is located here. It really looks like a royal palace from the outside. At first glance, you would never guess that it’s a part of the fortification wall of ancient Lviv. However, it is not the only mystery of Lviv that will be discovered to you as part of our tour.

City arsenal

A long time ago, these walls protected Lviv against invaders and enemies. Today, they attract tourists and curious visitors. The City Arsenal is a fortification landmark. Besides, there is one of Lviv’s most incredible museums inside it — the Museum of World Weapons of different historical eras. Come and touch these glorious walls, and you will feel the real power and might of Lviv.
